A survey carried out last month revealed that 85% of the 582,000 global Veganuary participants intend on sticking to a plant-focused diet.
This means that more than 1 in 8 people who went vegan for January are making permanent changes to their diet by cutting their intake of animal products by at least half.
Of this 85%, a significant 40% said they would be staying fully vegan. This equates to almost 200,000 new vegans around the globe.
What is perhaps even more significant is that 74% of the participants were meat or seafood eaters prior to Veganuary – indicating a huge shift away from animal products.
Toni Vernelli, International Head of Communications at Veganuary explained: “These incredible results show that Veganuary really is inspiring people around the world to adopt a more planet-friendly diet.”
While not all Veganuary participants intend to make permanent changes to their diet, a staggering 98% said they would recommend the pledge to friends or family.
Vernelli continued, “We work very hard to equip our participants with as much useful advice, delicious recipes and friendly support as possible, so it’s very rewarding to know that 98% would recommend Veganuary to others!”
